GUSTAVO ROJAS

INTRODUCTION

 

I am Gustavo Rojas, an artist from Colombia. I have lived in the New York area for more than 20 years and currently live in Teaneck, NJ. I am a painter, sculptor, printmaker and, more recently, a digital artist. I studied art both in Colombia and New York and have exhibited my work in galleries and museums across the United States and internationally.

 

Through sculpture, etching and painting, I have created a unique and personal style to communicate with the world. In my never-ending quest and desire to find new ways of communicating through my artwork, I have been using different techniques and materials to produce a form of expression that can carry a clear message of my ideas. The computer has given me organized means of producing my work that have evolved into a style of  that almost equals my paintings with airbrush techniques. The computer has also given me a new means of expression that allows almost limitless experimentation with color and form and has filled my thirst for creativity.

 

Through my work I try highlighting the richness of the culture I inherited from my ancestors and achieve its continuity. I acknowledge it through symbols, color, form and space with and abstract style, joining the past with the present, distances and time, and thus I carry the message that satisfies my need for expression and achieves communication with the spectator.
